Learning Manchester Histories

In the Lord Mayor's Parlour we'll be displaying a fascinating selection of work done on local history topics by schools across the city. There will also be a chance to learn about the historical research carried out at the Universities of Greater Manchester.

There are around 40 schools contributing projects to the Festival and on the Friday before the Festival opens to the public we'll be holding a schools' history day for schools to exhibit their work on Manchester Histories. On Saturday you'll be able to see what they have up to yourselves and see what the future thinks of the past. The Romans, Football, Cotton, Cholera, Suffragettes and Elephants, you'll find them all here and lots more besides!

History is a strong subject at the Greater Manchester Universities and we'll be featuring displays from the History Department and Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine from the University of Manchester, the Department of History and Economic History at Manchester Metropolitan University and Department of Media at the University of Salford. This is great chance to learn more about the historical research carried out in Manchester's universities and discover the opportunities to study history in Manchester.
