Loving Manchester

Work hard, play hard; Manchester people have always known how to enjoy themselves. In the nineteenth century, business and industry supported culture for the middle classes, such as the 1857 Art Exhibition. Later, rising working class standards of living encouraged the rise of the music hall and professional football teams.

The largest municipal park in Europe, the Halle Orchestra, the first repertory theatre in the country, two world class football teams; Manchester has often led the way.

In post Industrial Manchester, culture is central to a new kind of economy and Manchester is known world wide for its music, classical and popular, and sport.
